Make
a
Parish Page
Making the page is just like filling in a form, so there are four
steps.
- Get a copy of the form (the
blank page).
- Gather the required
information.
- Fill in the form.
- Hand in the completed form.
- Get
a blank page.
- Check to see that nobody
else in your parish has made, or is making, a page for your parish.
Contact the webmaster and
say which parish the page is for, and
whether you will be working on a Windows- or Linux-based machine.
You can get a self-extracting
zip file containing an HTML page
and some graphics. Save it to your hard drive and unzip
the file by double-clicking the file in the Explorer.
Rename the file parish_blank.html to my_parish.html
(e.g stthomas_linden.html).
If your Service Provider blocks .exe files
for security
reasons, get this zip file
and unzip it in
the usual way.
You will
need a tarball
containing an
HTML page
and some graphics. Save it to your hard drive
and expand
the file. Rename the file parish_blank.html to my_parish.html
(e.g stthomas_linden.html).
- Gather the required
information.
- Look at the Cathedral page
on the web site - it is under 'C' on the List of Parishes - and you
will see the kind of data that is needed. Collect the relevant
information for your parish and write it down on a piece of paper that
you can have handy when you do the next step.
- Fill in the form.
- Start
Nvu and open the file
you renamed from parish_blank.html to my_parish.html.
You can do this from the toolbar, or
from the menu bar by going File, Open or
by using the shortcut Ctrl+O. [Don't worry about the Nvu Site
Manager window - you won't need to
achieve our current goal.]
- Use the
mouse to select the
word Parish at the top of the page and type in the name of the parish
whose details are to follow. SAVE YOUR WORK!
- Use
the mouse to select the
words "Put the mission statement here" and type in the parish mission
statement. SAVE YOUR WORK!
- Use the mouse to
select the
words "Put the street address here" and type in the street address. Use
the
key to break the text into
lines.
The rest of the form is filled in by either selecting the
text to be
replaced, or by typing into the space provided.
Next you need to look at How to fill the form,
or do the
work and Get it published.
