ST THOMAS' INSTITUTE FOR LEADERSHIP IN MINISTRY

INTRODUCTION

The St Thomas' Institute for Leadership in Ministry (STILIM) is an ongoing attempt by various leaders in the Diocese, to offer - for the benefit of others - something of what they have gained from a variety of courses, at the Wits Business School, and elsewhere. The WBS courses were sponsored, very generously and graciously, by the RB Hagart Trust, who continue to support STILIM financially. The Barnes Trust also helps in making it possible to keep the STILIM Course fees affordable.

STILIM is based at St Thomas' Church, Linden. They have adapted their facilities to provide a very useful Training Centre.

The courses deal with Post-ordination training. A new series of courses for growing Lay Leadership begins in 2008, known as STI(L)LIM.

VISION STATEMENT

The St Thomas' Institute for Leadership in Ministry (STILIM) exists to develop excellence in Spiritual Leadership and in Ministry, in the church and in the world.

• Leadership in faith - preparedness to take risks in order to be obedient to God;
• Church practising 'the ministry of all believers' for the transformation of the world;

ADVANTAGES TO BE GAINED FROM DOING THIS COURSE

The participants should have:

• an understanding of different styles of leadership, and the consequences of each style, particularly in the parish context, and in implementing the Diocesan Vision;
• an ability to manage change, towards achieving a shared vision, in their parish or organisation, and in aligning with the priorities of the Diocesan Vision; 
• an ability to develop shared leadership and to empower the people of God to grow in faith and in community;
• deepened their own ability to be more effective in all areas of ministry.
