STAGE 1 OF
ORDINATION PROCESS
Parish-based discernment and support
- On-going Parish-based
discernment and support
- Co-ordinator Jerry Bailey
The aim is to help each parish to form a Discernment Group which will
assist people to discern and prepare for their distinctive ministries
as lay or ordained members of the church.
Candidates
for the ordained ministry start within this discernment
programme, and then move forward into a 5 stage process leading towards
ordination. Thus here in the parish is the start of the ordination
process.
- Elements of the Discernment Group.
- Parish-based
discernment:
- through
observance by / interaction with the Rector and parish leadership
(Parish Ministry
Discernment Team – MDT – or Parish Council -
PC);
- listening
to responses of other parishioners; and
- evaluating
the
person’s
participation in ministries, within and beyond the parish.
- Support
Group or Individual:
- assign
appropriate
person/s to encourage and support the potential candidate.
- Ongoing
assessment of vocation:
- as long
as the
potential candidate is a member of the congregation the Rector and
parish leadership has a responsibility for ongoing evaluation of the
person’s potential as a candidate for membership of the
Fellowship of
Vocation.
