 | HIV
& AIDS MINISTRY BISHOP’S
APPEAL LENT 2007 |
- Why
this appeal towards the HIV/Aids ministry?
- The
Anglican Province of Southern Africa has since 2003 sourced
funding for all dioceses to take seriously the challenges posed by
HIV and AIDS in our Region and to support our Archbishop
Njongonkulu Ndungane's Vision, "to work towards an
AIDS free society in a few decades". As a result, Bishop
Brian and our Diocesan Management Team last year resolved that this
year's Bishop's Appeal should go towards supporting
the work of the Diocesan HIV and AIDS Ministry. The Anglican
Province of Southern Africa requires each Diocese to also fund and
support ongoing HIV and AIDS Ministry in addition to the funding
from the Provincial Office.
HIV and AIDS remain the single
biggest Pastoral problem challenging us as a Diocese and the
Anglican Church of Southern Africa as a whole. Previous funding
received from the Province to support this Ministry will run out by
the middle of 2007. Therefore ongoing funding received from the
Province is needed to enable the Diocese to continue to support
the effective work done by Rev. Tsepo Matubatuba and the
Diocesan HIV and AIDS Team. It is common policy that outside funders
are never keen to finance overhead costs like Salaries and Office
Costs, without which this Ministry is unable to be effectively
coordinated and driven. As the ministry is done for Parishes and their
communities, the Bishop's Appeal is made to the Parish
members to support this ministry financially through planned
sacrificial giving during Lent.
